“Choosing”, “Election”, and “Predestination”

Chosen: Gk “Ekklektos” - “to speak intelligently. To choose, select, choose for one’s self. It involves a preference and choice among many, not necessarily implying the rejection of that which has not been chosen, but giving favor to the chosen object, keeping in view a relationship between the chooser and the object.”

God’s “ELECTION” is based on His “FOREKNOWLEDGE”:

Romans 8:28-30 – “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom He predestined these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.”

1 Peter 1:2 – “…elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ.”

God desires for ALL people to be SAVED:

Ezekiel 18:32 – “For I have no pleasure in the death of the one who dies,” says the Lord God. “Therefore turn and live!”

John 3:16,17 – “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.”

1 Timothy 2:3,4 – “For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth.”

2 Peter 3:9 – “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.”

1 John 2:2 – “And he Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but for the sins of the whole world.”

God FOREKNEW YOU, before you were born:

Jeremiah 1:5 – “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you as a prophet to the nations.”

God’s CALLING goes out to the WHOLE EARTH

Titus 2:11 – “For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men…”

John 12:32 – “And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to Myself”

Matthew 20:16 and 22:14 – “For many are called, but few are chosen.”

Matthew 23:37 – “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones all that I have

sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wing, but you were not willing!”
